Race Weights

Event weights will be roughly based on criteria established by USA Triathlon for the purpose of administering their national rankings system. For the SCTS events will be weighted based on distance and size of event. The event weight index will be used to calculate scores for all participants (See Scoring below).

BASE SCORES

  • SPRINT = 0.90
  • SPRINTERNATIONAL = 0.92
  • INTERNATIONAL = 0.93
  • HALF IRON = 0.96

SPECIAL WEIGHT ADDITIONS

  • Depth of Field (200+ Finishers in Prior Year) = +0.02
  • Depth of Field (300+ Finishers in Prior Year) = +0.03
  • Depth of Field (400+ Finishers in Prior Year) = +0.04
  • National / Regional Championship or Qualifier Designation = +0.05
  • SCTS Championship Event = +0.10

Based on these criteria, the 2024 Race Weights will be as follows :

  • Lake Murray = 1.0 (SCTS Championship Event)
  • Lakeside Double Sprint = 0.90
  • Clemson = 0.97 (USAT SC State Championship)
  • Tri the Swamp Rabbit = 0.92
  • Andy's Race = 0.92
  • Middle Tyger YMCA = 0.92
  • Dam Tri = 0.92
  • The Edisto Island Triathlon = 0.96

Series Scoring

Event Scoring Details

  • The top five men's finish times will be used to create an average time that all men's finish times will be divided into. The top five women's finish times will be used to create an average time that all women's finish times are divided into.
  • All male participants' finish times will be divided into this average male "base" time to create raw scores. (same for females).

Example

  • The five lowest men's times are:
    • 1 Hr. 2'33"
    • 1 Hr. 2'48"
    • 1 Hr. 3'15"
    • 1 Hr. 3'21"
    • 1 Hr. 3'30"
  • The base time becomes 1 Hr. 3'9" (the average of the five)
  • All male's times are divided into 1 Hr. 3'9"
  • The winner of the race (1 Hr. 2'33") receives a base score of 1.0087 (1 Hr. 2'33" divided into 1 Hr. 3'9")
  • The fifth place finisher (1 Hr. 3'30") receives a base score of .9936 (1 Hr. 3'30" divided into 1 Hr. 3'9")
  • The base score is then multiplied by the event weight index for that particular event.
  • For purposes of this example, this event is the Middle Tyger YMCA Triathlon.
  • Middle Tyger has an event weight index of .91
  • The winner of the event would receive a score of 9179 (1.0087 X .91 X 10000)
  • This same method would be used to calculate women's scores.

In Summary

  • To establish the event score for participants, all times are divided into the base average time and then multiplied by the event weight index, then multiplied by 10000 to make the number an integer. Men's and women's times will be calculated separately.
  • This same process will apply for females. The fastest female time will become the "base" time that all female times are measured against.
  • Timing System: My Laps timing system

How the Series is Scored:

Only the BEST four (4) scores from each athlete are used to determine the final series score. This practice is geared to reward performance and not number of events raced.
